In the Hill of Ancient Kansas there was once an Ox who’s life goal was to become the Royal Blacksmith of the area. He worked and worked so that his animal counterparts would recognize his work and appoint him to the emperor. Soon a Rabbit came along and became a blacksmith alongside the Ox. In no time at all the Ox saw the Rabbit as competition for the title of Royal Blacksmith. “The hills on this area are mine! I will become the Royal Blacksmith!”
“Do not worry, I will be of no trouble to you,” said the Rabbit in a squeaky voice.
After many years the ox had grown bored of his job but he still wanted to be the Royal Blacksmith and still worked hard, against his will. On the other hand, the Rabbit had fallen in love with Blacksmithing and had pondered what the Ox had said about the “Royal Blacksmith” and decided that he now also wanted this title. One day the Rabbit spotted the OX and wanted to speak to him. “Hello Ox, I remember you speaking to me about a ‘Royal Blacksmith’. How about we can work together I see that your work is very impressive.”
“Rabbit, that title is only for the best of the best Blacksmiths and there can only be one, and that will be me!”
“How ever you like, but I believe we could be a great pair.” replied the Rabbit.
The two Blacksmiths grew old and the Ox continued to become less excited of his job because he had not yet achieved his goal. One day a mysterious beaver came down to the Rabbit’s shop pretending to be a customer but he was actually searching for a new Royal Blacksmith. He was impressed by the Rabbit’s work but he did not show it. Soon after the beaver visited the Ox’s shop and was also very impressed but again, he didn’t show it. The Ox payed very close attention to the beaver in his shop and when he wasn’t complimented he assumed his work was disliked by the Beaver.
“Why did I ever become a Blacksmith in the first place,” muttered the Ox to himself. The very next day the Ox quit his business to move to Florida, convinced that he had failed at being a Blacksmith. The Beaver notified the Rabbit to pack his bags for the long journey to the Emperor’s palace. On his way the Rabbit could help but think about the Ox.
“I guess a quitter never wins and a winner never quits,” He said to himself as he walked into the doors of the palace.
